Splash of Color

In the study of Norwegian motifs, I have reached the point where I am selecting color palettes for the design. I began testing 4-color palettes in Adobe Illustrator using the Recolor command and palettes created in Adobe Color. Starting with monochromatic blues and reds, I moved next to 4-color complimentary and split complimentary palettes. 

The design depicts the aftermath of a sea battle between two nordic communities. Survivors of the battle cling to oars floating on the surface while, below, casualties float above sunken long boats. 

The monochromatic blues of the original design suggest open ocean. Monochromatic reds suggest blood shed from the fieve battle. A palette of reds and purples suggest the colors cast at sunset af time passes and hope of rescue diminishes for survivors. 

Ahead I plan to play with color pallets that reflect the northern lights...purples and greens. 

Finally I will return to an earlier design based on color palettes from Norwegian travel posters....monochromatic blues contrasting with analogous oranges to form a split complementary palette
