I've been meaning to get around to this!
Introducing myself? Well, yes, that too...but what I've been meaning to get back to is blogging.
For eight years, I wrote a weekly weblog for Yellow Springs News. There I chronicled my family life and the local food systems of my hometown. The main task was finding something clever say once a week to the tune of 800 words. I went out seeking experience and snapping photographs in complete faith that the words would tumble out of me once I began typing.
The purpose of this blog THE UNCUT COLTH is to follow my progress through Visual Literacy, a course at Columbus College of Art and Design. Last December I completed CCAD's masters program in retail design. I have returned to pursue a bachelor of fine arts in fashion design.
Why return? Art school makes us brave. Why fashion? I love making things, and I'm no stranger to industrial sewing machines. My dad was an upholsterer as a side gig to his engineering job, and I was his assistant...pulling staples, cutting fabric, making buttons, and generally wrestle pieces of furniture in and out of the shop. My twenty years of military service in the United States Air Force will also not go to waste as I have mad ironing skills. At CCAD, I'm looking forward to working with fabric again...draping, sewing, pressing, and making patterns. It's all about fitting forms to look fabulous.
My life ambition is to open a children's museum in Yellow Springs Ohio. My plan is to design a line of children's clothes as part of the museum's brand. The brand is all about support, and clothing is one of the many ways that we care for each other and project our inner self. So come on! Let's play!
