Gestalt in the Wild
Our treasure hunt took us through the alleyways between Cleveland and Grant Avenues, a spin within Hills Market, then down Broad Street to the Columbus Museum of Art. We snapped pictures and divided them into groups based on their dominant perceptual grouping.
Of the various groupings, common fate was the hardest to identify. Finally, we succeeded in finding a prime example at the Abigail apartment complex. The complex uses sets of bright red arrows for wayfinding. The first set we found featured a set of arrows pointing visitors north towards the entrance. The second set is located at the entrance directing the visitor up.
